One of the amazing side effects that practicing Self Care offers is that you start to shine from within.
It is this radiance of your inner glow that attracts positivity around you. As a Yoga Lifestyle guide, it has become my mission to spread this light. A light of positivity, of love of Prana (life force energy).
Yet first I would like to make clear that it does not mean you can’t have a bad day. Or feel down. It means that by practicing Self Care you have the tools to keep your inner Glow shining.
Now let’s dive deep into a couple of my favourite how to’s!
Are you an empath? And do you tend to absorb how people feel around you?
Embrace this amazing talent for this helps you be there for people in need. Yet if not practised with boundaries it can drain you energetically and as a result, dim your glow.
Practising boundaries is Self Care
Being grounded with the earth helps keep your energy with you. It still allows you to connect without being an open vessel, ready to receive everything and anything. And offers the possibility of giving without emptying yourself.
As you inhale imagine the energy of the earth rising up your spine. With this same movement of breath practice your root lock by squeezing your pelvic muscles. When you exhale release fully into the earth. Repeat this three times and notice how your connection of your feet with the earth is enhanced. You are standing firmly into the ground, receiving energy from Mother Earth and aware of the energetically fire in your body.
Practice this technique when you know you are going to be amongst a lot of people. A great effect that follows after practising being fully grounded is that it will come naturally to politely decline a person’s company because you will soon feel yourself losing the sense of being grounded.

A beauty wellness routine is Self Care
I am completely in love with my daily wellness routine.
When I look at skin and body care products I find it important that they are transparent, environmentally friendly, that there is no animal testing or cruelty and the ingredients have no nasties. A plus point is if the company has a holistic approach, where they look at the whole picture and see skincare as a means of prevention so they can care for the skin’s specific needs with their products and advice of treatments.
Two years ago I was following an advanced teacher training and it wasn’t easy. I was still breastfeeding my daughter, and had a lot of broken nights. After coming home from my training on the first day I looked into the mirror and even though I felt great in my body after the practice of Yoga, I saw how tired and dull my skin looked. My best friend had given me Susanne Kaufmann’s glow mask as a birthday gift a few days earlier. I decided to take 15 minutes for myself before being there for my daughter at night again. The luxury feel of the mask and soft natural scent offered me a sense of peace. Those 15 minutes was the ultimate practice of self care.
The next day I sent a selfie to my best friend to show her the effects of the mask. Just a picture with out words and her reply was; Wow you are glowing!
I had been practising yoga daily in my life for years, but never really took the time for a daily wellness ritual. My wellness ritual is what I look forward to when I have just brought the kids to bed. It only takes me 5 focused minutes of self-care practice a day. And an extra 15min a week for a luxury treatment.
Ingredients to look out for…
Awareness is key. Just like you would never eat certain chemicals it is important that you don’t put these ingredients on your skin. I started reading labels after working in a five star spa which promoted clean products.
It takes some getting used to, now I see it as a fun hobby.
Understanding what you put in your body and the connection to it brings awareness, understanding and knowledge.
I recommend looking here for a full list and explanation of ingredients best avoided:
My beauty ritual
Every skin type is different yet here I share with you my common beauty ritual.
I use a cleansing gel, a tonic and moisturiser twice a day.
To change it into a ritual I focus on my breathing. I consciously take these 5 minutes for myself. My kids and husband know this.
I put my favourite song on (currently this one: https://open.spotify.com/track/7DfXXbaSLCRGdsNoMdpTQ9?si=200ad3e16a754430 ) and dance while enjoying this moment for myself.
While working in the spa I learned a trick to take off any mask or cleansing gel. I use a face towel and soak it in hot water. I apply the towel to my face with the cleansing gel for a couple of moments before wiping my face clean. This gives a sense of luxury and peace. Just like on the airplane when you get a hot face towel from the airhostess before arriving on your destination.
To reduce waste I use washable pure cotton cloths to wipe my skin with the tonic. Always after washing my face from the cleanser.
Then I apply the moisturiser while giving my face a gentle massage and finish with my eye rescue stick. As a mom of two small kids with occasional sleepless nights this is my life saver.
Once a week I use a mask to deepen the cleansing and for this beautiful glow.
